Premier Bird Hunting Tournaments of Wisconsin

Family Upland Hunting Event

The PBHT is proud to announce the hosting of its First Annual Family Hunt Fest. The planing of this event is in its preliminary stages as the event is tentatively scheduled for September of 2010. The event will take place on a weekend. Saturday will offer a full schedule of learning activities. Families are then invited back on Sunday for their guided upland bird hunt.

Event Activities

It is the hope of the PBHT to offer a wide range of activities to families in a safe, educational setting. Possible areas of learning and associated activities include the following.

  • Upland Bird Hunting Activities
    • How do I properly and safely shoot a shotgun? This activity will allow families to learn about the various types of shotguns used in bird hunting, as well as obtain shooting instruction from certified instructors via sporting clay activity.
    • What is expected of me and my dog in the field? Families will see a demonstration of both flushing and pointing dogs working in the field. Since the family bird dog(s) is welcome as well, he/she and of course you will be able to partake in a few field obedience lessons giving by professional trainers.
    • What do I do if my dog gets hurt out in the field? As we all know accidents can happen so we want to be prepared to help our dog feel better fast. Therefore, a basic dog first aid class will be given by a practicing veterinarian.
    • Is upland game good to eat? Absolutely, and it is good for you. Learn how to field dress and cook your game.
  • Other Critter Related or Hunting Activities
    • How do you make houses for blue birds and wood ducks? This activity will allow you to make a blue bird and/or wood duck house of your very own, as well as learn about the lifestyle and habitat needs of the blue bird and wood duck.
    • Who made those tracks? Learn how to identify wildlife by the tracks they leave behind.
    • How do you properly and safely trap? Learn more about this historically rich activity.
    • How do I properly and safely shoot a bow and arrow? Get into the hunt via archery.
    • How do I properly and safely shoot a mussel loader? Learn the in's and out's of the mussel loader. Shooting a mussel loader is a fun and unique experience one shouldn't miss.

Details regarding this event will be finalized and posted in August, 2010. Don't miss out on participating in a great event.

In an effort to build toward the event described above, the WCHS Family Fun Fest will be taking place on September 25-27, 2009. The WCHS Family Fun Fest is a special event for Wisconsin Series members, family, and friends, as well as the general public.

This event will provide competitive fun and education in the way of bird dog hunting, retrieval work, gun safety, and shooting technique. To learn more, click on the event logo to the right.
